Something to Prove
great baking for the young and independent
Saturday-Sunday 11th-12th September 2010
Cost £395
Leaving home to study or work is exciting and a bit daunting. Good nourishment is obviously important in keeping up energy levels and mental performance, but random grazing on seemingly-cheap fast food is often the norm. However, more young people are into decent food these days and Bread Matters has helped a steady stream of student bakers. Some even supply bread to their flatmates or neighbours. Making your own is fun, fascinating and economical.
This new course pulls together everything a young person needs to know to be able to make breads, rolls, pizzas, crispbreads and a whole lot more using good ingredients and proper fermentation. We know how busy and stressed life can get when you’re away from the family life support system. But, while giving bread enough time to rise is key to its flavour and digestibility, it doesn’t have to take much of your time – if you know what you’re doing.
As with all Bread Matters courses, Something to Prove is about understanding basic processes, not merely following a recipe. And to go with the breads, we show how to make some superbly tasty dishes from staple ingredients – things that’ll do a week of quick meals or feed a bunch of hungry friends, no bother.
Timed just before the start of the academic year, this course will also offer useful advice on local access to real foods, bulk buying and other strategies for eating healthily on a budget.
‘We were made so welcome, everyone on the course was friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you!’
